This is some video I took one evening while hunting the Paunsaugunt with my mom in 2009. We sat in one place for over two hours and saw over one hundred deer.

I just got charge $408 for a mountain goat tag on Willard Peak (nanny), and $35 for a general season archery deer tag! I have no idea if I am going to have time to actually go hunting this fall. I have been applying for natural resource law enforcement jobs, and I may be in police academy. Good luck to the rest of you hunters in this years draws.

Wyoming Interviews

I was invited to interview for a job in Wyoming that is offering multiple positions. I took my family with me to Cheyenne where the interviews took place. Over the course of three days I passed my board interview, took a polygraph test, took several written psychological test, had a psychological interview, released my information for a credit check, agreed to a background investigation, and had my fingerprints taken. Overall I felt very good about my performance throughout the process. I will not know if I am selected for employment until sometime in June.

We visited the Nelson Museum of the West, the Wyoming Historic Governors Mansion, The Wyoming History Museum, and several city parks. I was very impressed by the city parks that are available to the public in Cheyenne.

We like to eat at hometown dinners whenever we visit new locations. In Cheyenne we found two dinners that we enjoyed. Little Philly had some very nice staff and the food was pretty good. The Luxury Dinner did not have the best food, but the waitress was awesome and we made friends with everyone that sat near us. They gave our baby vanilla wafers within two minutes of when we got to our table. I wish more places got some type of food to babies as soon as they arrived. My wife was able to substitute pancakes in place of fries, and I had a huge burger.

After spending five days in Wyoming we have concluded that we would jump at the opportunity to move there with our family.

My Graduation

Yesterday I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Wildlife Science and a minor in Biology. Both my parents and my in-laws came to show their support. The actually graduation ceremony only took about 45 minutes (maybe).

I went to school so I could further my knowledge and to qualify myself for employment in natural resource management. Now that I am graduated I am excited to see who hires me onto their agency. I have one interview next week, and most likely multiple interviews in June. The job market is scarce, but I am anticipating having a job by August.

Graduation Present

I got this camera from my wife and mother-in-law for my graduation present. It is super awesome! I have wanted a camcorder for a very long time. Technically, I am not suppose to have it until Saturday afternoon.

The camera is about 1/2 the size of the photo above.

Graduation

After taking 154.5 credit hours I will finally get my degree on May 5th, 2012. So far I have finished one of my four classes. I still have to take two finals, submit a group paper (currently 25 pages), and give a 15 minutes group presentation. Why do seniors who are graduating on Saturday have finals on Friday? I feel bad for the professors who have to grade all the papers and test on Friday after they are submitted by the students.

New bow strings

During the summer of 2011 I realized that I needed to throw my whisker biscuit arrow rest in the trash and get a quality arrow rest. I had a muzzleloader that I never used even though it was a great gun. I sold the gun and bought a new arrow rest, arrows and a trail camera.

This year I am in need of new bowstrings for my Hoyt Alphamax. My wife also needs some repairs for her Bear Lights-Out. We decided to sell some text books and other books we never read on Amazon to fund these repairs. So far we have sold one book, and we should be able to sell my text books very soon. If we sell all the books we posted on Amazon, we will make over $200. I am certain that that much money would not only fund the needed repairs, but might also offer us enough money to get my wife some new arrows.

I have always thought of creative ways to fund my passion for archery. When I was 15 I mowed lawns to purchase my first bow, a Hoyt Magnatec. When I was sixteen I saved a dollar or two a day from the tips I received while working at a restaurant so I could afford gas throughout the archery season (gas was $1.65 per gallon).

Simply thinking about what I have done in my life to have quality archery equipment and the opportunity to hunt makes me realize how simple it is to make your dreams come true if you invest in them.

Time to dust off the archery equipment

Last week I got out and cleaned my Hoyt Alphamax 32 and the Bear Lights-Out that my wife shoots. They were a little dusty from being stored over the winter. We went out to shoot them on March 31 and again on April 7. I have concluded that my wife needs to get a new module on her bow to extend her draw length, and that I need new strings on my bow. My wife got her bow in 2009 and has never taken a shot past 20 yards, but on March 31 she stepped back to 30 yards and shot excellent. Maybe we can get her shooting out to 40 yards by the end of summer.

I am practicing archery in anticipation of obtaining a Willard Peak mountain goat permit to hunt nanny goats in October. However, I am looking for a job and I may have to surrender my permit in August if I am not able to hunt my mountain goat in October. Most of the jobs I am applying for are in law enforcement and will require me to attend police academy. There is a very high chance that I will be in police academy this fall.

Our daughter is still a little too young to shoot a bow, but she has taken an interest in archery.

My baby can walk, say da-da, and clap.
